The ventilation openings at the bottom of the stove direct air to the firebed, while warm air rises between the walls of the stove. The preheated oxygen that is channeled back into the firebox through the smaller openings at the top of the stove leads to secondary combustion. This allows for a more complete combustion of the fuel, resulting in very little smoke when fully burned. A more efficient burn also means you need much less wood compared to an open campfire. The Solo Stove Campfire not only burns wood; it cooks the smoke from the wood and then burns the smoke – not once, but twice!

The beveled edge of the cooking ring increases efficiency by directing heat to the pot and minimizing heat loss. Additionally, it acts as a windscreen while allowing oxygen to flow into the stove.
