As far as I'm concerned, no problem, the bracket goes on the tailgate of the car and the plates are on the bumper.

Initially I had the same issue. But at least on our VW Sharan I was able to mount the rack high enough on the back door that the bike cleared the number plate. It's not ideal but it works. The straps that fix the rack to the bottom of the back door pass over the plate a little but the registration number remains clear enough.

Have the carrier on a 2018 Opel Astra, fits well and the number plate is visible without any problems.
If it does not fit I think has no problems to send retur!
