Bulky twist grip or rapid-fire switches, often with unnecessary shift indicators, are not for everyone. They look clunky on sleek city bikes, and the rubber of the twist grips often becomes sticky due to hand sweat. In cold weather, when riding with gloves, they are impractical. Thumb switches are a better choice in this case. Microshift now offers elegant Shimano-compatible Thumbie switches. Right-side indexed for 9- or 10-speed derailleur systems. Left-side with friction for 2- or 3-speed chainsets. The latest XT groups only work with older XT front derailleurs.
