Many of the technological highlights that made the Overdrive Elite the new benchmark for touring tires are also found in the Overdrive Excel. Two rubber compounds on the tread optimize handling on straight roads and in corners. In the center of the tread is the harder Maxxis Allround compound, which gives the Excel its low rolling resistance and very long lifespan. On the sides of the tread, Maxxis MaxxPro is used - this slightly softer compound ensures excellent corner grip and impressive traction even in wet conditions. This tightly woven puncture protection layer made from special fibers not only protects against punctures beneath the tread, as is usually the case. With the Overdrive Excel, Maxxis also uses the Silkworm protection layer on the tire sidewalls, meaning the entire tire is protected against punctures from rim edge to rim edge. This ensures that the often vulnerable sidewalls are safe from damage, further reducing the risk of punctures – providing true all-around protection in a still very lightweight touring tire. The carcass fabric of the Overdrive Excel has 60 threads per inch, or 23 threads per cm. This carcass is constructed with three layers beneath the tread and two layers on the sidewalls, forming a secure and stable base for one of the best touring tires.
