If you do it, do it right

I’m a junkie for movement. Without sports I feel bad and get grouchy. My wife could tell you stories about me. Currently, it’s at the worst it’s ever been.

I don’t pay attention for one moment and bam, my hand’s broken. Diagnosis: a fractured metacarpal. And all this from just wanting to do some skiing. How did this happen?

And now this. For three weeks my left side has only been here for decoration, and I can feel my muscles atrophying. Here’s a picture:

Goodbye muscles. Nice knowing you.

I’ll only be able to use my left hand again in about six weeks. What will happen to the left side of my torso until then? We’ll see. I’m fearing the worst. Losing muscles after an injury is a right pain. To shield my right side from a similar fate, one thing is for sure: hand workouts will be the new norm.

Do you want to strengthen your hands, wrists and lower arms as well? No matter if you want a better grip while bouldering or are going through physical rehabilitation, this adjustable hand trainer from Tunturi is adaptable to your strength preference. The orange variant ranges from 5 to 20 kilograms, the black version from 10 to 40 kilograms. The machine is shaped in an ergonomic, comfortable way. Using the knob, the resistance is easily adjustable: best to start at the lowest weight class and building up your strength gradually.

What matters isn’t how well you play when you’re playing well. What matters is how well you play when you’re playing badly.

Tunturi Adjustable hand trainer. I bought two. the silver ring next to the orange knob is plastic and they both broke within one month of use. Then the gripper splits in two making the gripper useless. I used a ring tightening clamp to hold the grippers together. Now they work well. (clamp is used to seal a rubber hose on to a metal pipe fitting)
