Question about Vacu Vin wine saver

This is not meant to be stored for years. Above all, why store it lying down? There is exactly one reason to store wine horizontally: closed bottles with corks. Lidded wine doesn't have to be stored horizontally either. Besides, this part is not meant to be stored for a longer period of time, but to keep the wine for a few more days. Then you can also put it upright.

It should, because a vacuum is created in the bottle. If the spigot is not tight, the vacuum would disappear. But I have never tried it.
