I'd like to clarify the correct way to recycle SodaStream bottles. Even though their packaging says "Sprudlerflasche PET", these bottles are actually refillable pressurised containers, not single-use bottles.
Even though they are made from PET, they are : - Thicker and reinforced to withstand the pressure of the gas, - not designed to be recycled in the same way as single-use PET bottles for drinks.
PET Recycling Schweiz points out that only single-use PET drinks bottles (mineral water, soft drinks, juices, etc.) should be deposited in PET collection containers - not thicker, reusable containers, oil bottles, household product bottles or refillable pressurised containers.
So, although the SodaStream bottle is made of PET, it belongs to a different category (durable plastic article) and must therefore not :
🗑️ not be placed in the usual PET collection bins.
It must be disposed of : - either in the plastics collection bins if your local authority offers one (often available from waste collection centres or certain large retailers such as Migros or Coop), - or, failing that, with household waste destined for incineration.
