You found out for yourself whether it works or not. In my opinion, several features that I find particularly great about this model are simply omitted:
- Mapping
- Defining rooms and zones and using the app to send the Roomba to where it should be vacuuming now.
- Defining how exactly to clean (dry/wet/how often...)

The dirt extraction also works offline. Maybe there is the possibility to use the Roomba in a private wifi without internet connection and/or you allow the mapping at least in the beginning, so that there is data for the Roomba to orientate itself. But I can't tell you how well it works then.
In my opinion, a cheaper Roomba or hoover robot would probably be of more use to you as physical lighthouses used to be sent along with the Roomba to delimit the vacuuming area.

We understand your point about data protection and this is also a major concern for us, which is why iRobot puts a lot of effort into this area. iRobot uses the highest data encryption standards and has been awarded a TÜV certification for cybersecurity - which should underline how secure your data is when using our robots.

The Roomba Combo j7+ is distinguished by its app features - for example, room-to-room navigation, control on the go via the app, setting up favourites, defining blocking or NoMop zones, etc. All these functions and many more can be used via the iRobot Home App, for which you need wifi.

If you want to use the Roomba Combo j7+ without the app, you can also start/stop it simply by pressing a button. However, it would be a shame to waste the money you spent on the device. As mentioned in the comments, we would also recommend lower-priced models such as the Roomba i-Series.
