Can the grill be locked at a certain height or does it simply clamp the food between the plates?

The height is adjustable, i.e. the lid is guided in a rail at the back and not fixed at one point. However, it cannot be properly locked in place, it simply rests on top. The rail makes it more parallel to the base plate.
