Since its founding in 1853, the former Württembergische Metallwarenfabrik (now WMF Group GmbH) has been producing high-quality kitchen tools and household goods for private households, gastronomy, and hospitality. WMF's most famous achievement is the stainless steel Cromargan, which contains 18% chromium and 10% nickel, named for its high chromium content and silver-like appearance. Chromium makes the metal rust-resistant, while nickel provides acid resistance and shine.
