Thomas was founded in 1903 by Fritz Thomas in Marktredwitz, Upper Franconia. In 1908, Rosenthal acquired the porcelain factory "F. Thomas, Marktredwitz." In 1960, porcelain production was moved from the Marktredwitz plant to the newly built "Thomas am Kulm" facility in Speichersdorf/Upper Franconia, whose facade was designed by the Italian architect Marcello Morandini with geometric patterns.
