Just as an open fire once melted the cheese wheel, Elsa melts the top layer of the cheese block (standard raclette blocks). Now, Elsa can be easily grasped by the Bakelite handles, and the plate with the cheese tilts forward over the plate. In this position, the cheese can be easily scraped off – a true raclette in the traditional way!.
