Extremely expensive but also really practical

I was able to test the S9+ at my house. Compared to my three-year-old Samsung VR-something, this robot is worlds better.

The cleaning performance is tiptop, both on hard floors and on carpets, where he automatically increases
the suction power. It also gets into corners surprisingly well and can free itself surprisingly often even after problems with eaten cables and shoelaces. It does not like high pile carpets and "cantilever" chairs. Both work with difficulty, as long as he can drive over them with momentum. But if he has to start or turn on the high pile carpet, he reaches the limit or gets stuck.
The biggest problem with the robots I tested was always my girlfriend's long hair. With this robot I had so far almost no problems.

Also, the navigation, as well as the control via the app works perfectly. A map of the apartment is created, which allows the apartment to be divided into individual rooms. Finally, no-go zones can be drawn directly on the map, without the need for any accessories.

The biggest plus, however, is clearly the suction station. This allows the robot to clean the apartment independently for several weeks without manual intervention. This is a huge step in the development of a truly autonomous vacuum robot. Since we have two dogs at home and my girlfriend also sheds like a border collie, this saves a lot of manual bin emptying. It is probably almost entirely due to this currently Roomba-exclusive feature that iRobot can charge such an outrageously high price.

I was somewhat surprised by the volume of the device. The S9+ is not exactly quiet. We have mostly slate flooring in our home, which naturally has some texture to it. The Roomba rattles and clatters over it, so that you almost get afraid that the part itself will shake apart. However, this is probably due to the purposely suspended cleaning unit, which is to adapt to the floor optimally. Since the Roomba only runs when no one is home, but this is not tragic.

The price is of course extremely high. For the same money you could buy three comparably good competitor products, but then you would have to do without an extraction station.
So if the extraction station is important to you, I can definitely recommend this thing. If you can do without it, you are equally well served with a competitor's product and for a fraction of the money.

A big step forward compared to previous generations

I bought mine in December 2019 from another dealer, as Galaxus did not offer it for sale.

I recommend that after an initial charge, you first put away all furniture that could be moved to a high place, put away cables,
carpets and fragile objects and contrary to what iRobot suggests, have it go through two learning cycles, one of which is a training session. Contrary to what iRobot suggests, it should go through two learning cycles, one with all the lights on and the other in natural light, in order to create a complete map of the home. Then to be able to place the virtual separations directly, then name the rooms and define the exclusion zones.

The application works well, allows control outside the home and is simple to use. The end of cycle reports and notifications are great. The integration with Google Home works well and it can be controlled by voice.

The robot hoover is quite efficient and has good suction power in addition to the mechanical effect of the brushes. Compared to previous generations, its mapping and navigation have been significantly improved. The cleaning cycles are therefore shorter for the same surface.

Its side brushes turn more slowly and are less likely to chase certain dirt away. Its sharper angle has the advantage that it wraps the hair less around the shaft. And its D-shape means that it can finally get around corners like its competitors.

The robot's sensors mean that it is no longer a bully that runs at full speed into furniture and damages it. The touches are done gently.

Small objects are still a problem for the two main brushes and the robot will easily get stuck, you have to tidy up before it passes! There is still no recognition of LEGO bricks on the floor on this generation.

As far as noise is concerned, the hoover is far from being silent and the one on the base is downright noisy. It certainly won't work while you're sleeping.

As with any robot hoover, it still needs a minimum of maintenance, mainly long hair that gets caught in the brushes. But cleaning is quick and easy.

The automatic emptying is an extra convenience. Changing the bag depends directly on the amount of dirt collected. In my case, it takes well over 30 cycles to fill it.

In the weak points, the robot cannot navigate in complete darkness, it needs a little light.

Long carpet fringes or carpets that slide across the floor are not its friends, it prefers well-secured tiles, parquet and carpets.

And finally there is no child lock for the buttons on the top of the hoover... you may well get your hoover moped up, as junior has decided to play with the buttons. The compartment housing the base bag is also a bit too easy for little hands to open.

    purchased this product

The best I had until now

Have long considered the s9 + to purchase, has definitely been worth it. I can only recommend!

    Pro

    • Powerful suction, fast cleaning, always finds the charging station, with the suction station, ingenious.
    • Wide suction brushes, no hair sticks, I would not have thought.

    Contra

    • Rather one of the most expensive
