The lower part is made of ceramic and provides a mini storage space for potatoes, onions, beets, and other root vegetables, as well as unripe fruits. The natural properties of cork help keep fruits fresh and edible for longer by keeping pesky fruit flies away. The ceramic base protects the vegetables from light, and together with the insulating properties of the cork lid, it maintains a constant temperature similar to that of a cellar. The three holes in the bottom prevent excessive moisture. The cork lid is water-repellent and can be easily cleaned with a damp cloth.
