Easily refill your grinder by unscrewing the knob on the top and removing it along with the wooden lid. Fill with your favorite salt, replace the lid and enjoy freshly ground pepper. Adjust the grind by tightening or loosening the knob on the top. Use a coarse setting for steaks or tomato salad, a medium setting for pizzas, and a fine setting for soups and sauces. If your grinder is hard to grind, especially on the fine setting, try cleaning the grinder. Turn the grinder upside down, loosen the knob to the coarsest setting, and turn the lid. This will release any large peppercorns or salt crystals that may have lodged. Tighten the knob back to the desired setting. It is advisable not to put salt in your pepper mill as this will corrode the carbon steel mechanism.
