Alessi - Edo Wok, Stainless Steel

The designer of the Alessi Edo series, Patricia Urquiola, was a student of the renowned Italian industrial designer Achille Castiglioni. Her unique perspective on inspiration allowed her to develop this series. In an interview, she states that it is something inner, affective, an emotional and cultural memory that enables us to absorb elements and transform them into projects.

Alessi Edo is a play of references. Associations between things that are distant but feel close together in the mind. Additionally, Edo is the old name for Tokyo. Many of her creations are inspired by Japanese cuisine. Furthermore, the designer was guided by the idea that her products should not appear too industrial. A bulge in the body of the objects seems to diminish the cylindrical appearance, encouraging the use of the product. The bronzed handles add a sense of lightness to the products. The concave lids, styled like a beret, emphasize the form.
