1. Ennsthaler Am Nabel der Welt

Is Steyr, the Upper Austrian city with a 1000-year-old past, the hub of events whose significance reaches around the globe? "The new sagas are extra exciting evidence for this assumption," assures the author.
His book contains 13 sagas, all of them invented by himself or, better, "found," as he says. They are rich in fantasy, quirky, bizarre and satirical - and many of them tie in with the eventful old and more recent history of the tradition-rich town of Steyr. The pendulum swings strongly back and forth between fact and fiction.
One can read about wild devils, shrewd craftsmen and seductive river maidens. The Steyr original Michel vom Schnallenberg is also featured. The crowning finale is a pandemic saga. Immerse yourself in the world of recently discovered Steyr legends!

5. Ennsthaler Am seidenen Faden

In a town like Steyr with so much history, there are also plenty of stories. All you have to do is walk through the old town with your eyes open - and there they are, the new tales from the old days: adventurous, hair-raisingly funny and unbelievably fantastic. They tell of the invasion of the alien earthlings and their expulsion by the Steyr Panther and a Martian crater called Steyr, of the reschen Traubenwirtin and her minimal underwear, of Schuh-Bert's amorous experiences, of the unicorn dragon with goatee and frog tongue, of a duck rally in the Wehrgraben and of eight pairs of singing twin brothers. The newly discovered treasure trove of legends, part two, with 15 exciting stories - like part one with the title "Am Nabel der Welt" (At the Navel of the World) - provides the best, most enjoyable reading pleasure.

6. Ennsthaler Das ordentliche Leben der Marlen Haushofer

Marlen Haushofer's female characters in her novels and stories are all autobiographically tinted, representing "split-off personalities" that mosaic together to form a single figure. Like the author herself, they are women of the post-war generation, committed to rebuilding and the professional success of men. They are embedded in the temporal context of the 1950s and 1960s, with its constraints and moral ideals. They navigate between role adaptation, self-sacrifice, temporary resistance, and resignation. They attempt to bring order to their lives through various strategies. Ultimately, these attempts are doomed to fail. As this essay reveals, Marlen Haushofer is not the only one of her generation making these desperate attempts. She is an unyielding chronicler of her time, describing the fragility of bourgeois facades in clear language and exposing the apparent idylls of harmonious coexistence. Marlene Krisper personally met Marlen Haushofer and feels a kinship with her as a member of the so-called post-war generation due to many parallels.
