Mungo is too pretty and too gentle for the hyper-masculine world of working-class Glasgow in the 1990s. His brother Hamish, a feared gang leader, wants to make him a man and drags him to the brutal battles between Protestants and Catholics - only those who are tough enough can survive here. Then Mungo meets James and with him he can be who he is. With him, he gets to know a desire that is ostracised, that fills him with shame, but also with happiness, which he has to deny even to his sister Jodie, with whom he otherwise shares everything. For the love that grows between the boys is life-threatening - and at the same time their salvation.
