Wiesenstein

The old man, a celebrity and Nobel laureate, leaves the sanatorium with his wife, where both have sought refuge, and is escorted to the train with military protection. But it is March 1945, the Dr. Weidner sanatorium is located in the recently destroyed Dresden, and the train is heading east. Gerhart and Margarete Hauptmann want to go nowhere else but to Silesia, to their villa "Wiesenstein," a magnificent estate in the Giant Mountains. There, they wish to continue their still luxurious life, in a stunningly beautiful landscape, with their own masseur and maid, butler and gardener, cook and secretary - amidst the barbarism. But was it the right decision to stay in the Third Reich at all? And what was the price for that? Can they and their entourage live undisturbed now that the war is gradually being lost, with Russian troops and Polish militias approaching?.
