Product details
There is no inevitability in politics. Energetic action can lead to an ambitiously set goal.
The world into which the Corona pandemic broke was not intact, whole, or safe. Even before, normality was in crisis. In his wise and thoughtful new book, Robert Habeck explores the reasons for the loss of what was once taken for granted and outlines a politics that is appropriate to the problems of our time. Nothing seems to be taken for granted or secure anymore. Not the way we will do business and work, not the values of democracy and human rights, and not even what private happiness will be in the future. The old promise of stability will not bring new security. Therefore, the urgent question arises as to what the reasons are for the insecurities and the increasingly rapid crises.
Drawing on personal experiences from the past few years, which have been marked by successes but have also made him a target of hatred, Robert Habeck seeks answers in his new book to the question of why the success of liberal democracy is at risk of becoming a failure. With self-criticism, he approaches the blind spots of the politics of recent decades and their contradictions. He outlines a politics that aims not just to repair but to prevent the problems and losses of progress from arising in the first place. For, as Habeck states: If we want to counteract the erosion of democracy, the loss of trust in politics, the disintegration of Europe, and the climate crisis, we can do so. We just have to choose to do it.
