Über Grenzen denken

Over two billion people live in poverty worldwide, suffering from hunger, oppression, and war. More than 65 million of them were displaced just last year, many hoping for a better life in Europe or North America. Urgent help is needed - but are open borders the right answer to the world's misery? This view has many advocates, yet philosopher Julian Nida-Rümelin is convinced: Open borders would not significantly alleviate suffering, but rather weaken the regions of origin further and exacerbate social conflicts in the host countries. They are not a solution to the shameful humanitarian scandals of our time. In his Ethics of Migration, Nida-Rümelin bridges philosophy and politics: Political action must be based on the values and norms of humanity. Only in this way can responsible solutions be found.
