Social psychiatry has developed into a broad discipline. Due to the complexity of the field, it is necessarily multidisciplinary, both in clinical and scientific terms. This handbook attempts to cover the current state of knowledge in the many fields of research and activity. Volume 1 deals in 33 chapters with the basics of social psychiatry, including historical, conceptual, social science and neurobiological as well as ethical and legal aspects. Volume 2 contains 43 chapters on practical approaches ranging from the prevention of mental illness to forms of care and therapeutic approaches. In four chapters, people affected by mental illness themselves also have their say. Sections on benefit law and general topics round off the manual.
