In this volume, I would like to highlight some general features that characterize the way sexual behavior has been reflected upon by classical Greek thought as a realm of moral assessment and moral options. I start from the contemporary concept of the 'use of pleasures' to elaborate on the modes of subjectivation it refers to. By focusing on a practice that had its existence, status, and rules within Greek culture (healthy living, household management, courtship), I will analyze how medical and philosophical thinking has developed this 'use of pleasures' and formulated specific themes of moral rigor that should recur across four major axes of experience: the relationship to the body, the relationship to the wife, the relationship to boys, and the relationship to.
