Product details
Only one year after the publication of the first edition, the second, revised edition of the book is now available. It has been thoroughly revised by the authors and supplemented with the positioning treatment for ulnar epicondylopathy, as well as valuable information from the authors' wealth of experience. This practice picture book offers exceptionally precise and practicable guidance with point-by-point handling instructions and memorable drawings. The authors describe their concept for further development and optimization of the strain-counterstrain technique developed by Lawrence Jones. In the book, the therapist is guided step by step through the treatment of different body regions.
The basis of Jones' theory is the observation that patients try to reduce any pain within the movement system by adopting a certain body position. He found zones of increased tension on the surface of the body, called tender points, which indicated painful functional impairment and served as the starting point for treatment. The strain-counterstrain technique aims to eliminate dysfunction and the associated increase in tension through positioning that is painless for the patient, or ideally, pain-free.
The method is based on neurophysiological considerations; however, it requires slow positioning and palpation steps, which can be time-consuming. This led the authors to explore whether facilitation techniques could be used to reduce the time required to perform the method. They developed a treatment procedure that almost always uses compression, and occasionally traction, allowing for significant optimization of time while maintaining effectiveness. This resulted in detailed instructions for finding tender points, assigning them to functional disorders of the musculoskeletal system, and the respective therapeutic procedure.
