One evening, as June Brown leaves the office late after a long workday, she has an erotic encounter with a stranger in the elevator during a power outage, enveloped in complete darkness. But before she can find out who the man is, she is transferred within the company. She becomes the assistant to Ryan Carter, the CEO of Carter Corporation and one of New York's most eligible bachelors.

For June, a life full of glamour, galas, and rides in Ryan's limousine begins, which is initially very confusing for the young woman. Her fascinating boss seems to enjoy stoking the increasingly intense fire between them, but the encounter in the elevator also lingers in her mind. Caught in a whirlwind of emotions, June realizes too late that the successful businessman is being threatened. As she becomes embroiled in the dark machinations, her love is at stake, and she must decide: Does she want to be "just" Ryan's assistant, or will she always succumb to the magic of his gray eyes?
