Monster Band Two takes place against the turbulent political backdrop of late 1960s Chicago and is the highly anticipated conclusion of one of the most acclaimed graphic novels of the past decade. It is the fictional graphic diary of 10-year-old Karen Reyes, who attempts to solve the mysterious murder of her neighbor Anka Silverberg, a Holocaust survivor, while the interconnected stories of the people around her unfold. Set in the summer of 1968 in Chicago, it continues with dark secrets from both the past and present. Karen continues her investigation into Anka's death and discovers a final cassette that sheds light on Anka's heroic activities in Nazi Germany. She grapples with her own sexual identity, the death of her mother, and the secrets that her brother Deeze is presumably keeping from her.

Visually, the story is told in Ferris's inimitable style, which combines breathtaking and seamless panel-to-panel storytelling with cartoon montages full of B-movie horror and pulp monster magazine iconography.
