It has been shown that one can only achieve skill in cooking, baking, and preserving if one recognizes the principles that govern the combination of ingredients and the preparation of dishes, and adheres to the resulting rules. Most cooking and baking recipes can be categorized into related groups. This leads to basic quantities and fundamental recipes. These can be altered through various seasonings, fillings, or shapes, as well as by using appropriate substitutes. This independent embellishment, modification, or derivation fosters a joy in cooking and baking and allows creativity and spirit to flourish. Working with basic recipes may seem to lead to a certain uniformity. In reality, however, the solid foundation of basic recipes provides everyone with the means to independently adapt and transform dishes.
