Chemist Leo Kall has found a way into the souls of his fellow citizens with a truth drug. The state's new interrogation method takes control of people. Anti-state thoughts are unmasked, all citizens are brought into line, marriages are usually entered into purely as a marriage of convenience in order to give the state children. But resistance is stirring in secret. Some people seek meaning in life beyond the official doctrine. Leo Kall also begins to have doubts and to question his role as a loyal fellow soldier. Nevertheless, he decides to take a dangerous path. He uses all the force at his disposal to find out whether his wife is having an affair, and does not shy away from a dangerous experiment to do so.
