The house where Yasemin lived until recently no longer stands. Only memories remain of the apartment she last shared with her boyfriend Vito. Their story dates back to their youth: they both grow up in the same high-rise complex, and Yasemin falls in love with the three-years-older neighbor at the age of thirteen. A stay in a sanatorium for the treatment of her scoliosis becomes a place of mystical experiences. After that, Yasemin distances herself from Vito. Her own body, which now has to be supported by a corset, feels too foreign to her. It is only twenty years later, when her painstakingly straightened spine threatens to curve again, that they meet once more. Yasemin sees this late rekindling of their youthful love as fate. But then Vito reveals his inner self, which is threatening and empty. "I pretend to be asleep" tells of male violence against women - and the story of a liberation.
