Product details
Hans Josephsohn, born in 1920 in Königsberg, arrived in Zurich via Florence in 1938. Over more than six decades, he created a body of work that stands apart from all trends while possessing an unparalleled sensitivity to his time. The standing and reclining sculptures, monumental half-figures, and reliefs impress with their presence and force. Hundreds of archaically shaped, fragile plaster figures populate his studio, and he continually works on them - engaging with material, space, volume, and light. They are forms that embody inner images, reflecting his engagement with the fates and coincidences of existence. The comprehensive monograph presents Josephsohn's position, makes its genesis tangible, places it within the broad horizon of art development, and showcases the fascinating individuality, the tense calm, and the balanced sensitivity of his work.
