Product details

Ferdinand Hodler (1853-1918) is the most significant Swiss artist at the turn of the 19th to the 20th century. He broke with artistic conventions and created a body of work as a painter of striking landscapes and portraits, as well as a creator of monumental historical and symbolist figure paintings, which gained recognition far beyond the borders of his country during his lifetime. Some of his works have become national icons, such as his Wilhelm Tell or the lumberjack, who once adorned the 50-franc note. Numerous exhibitions and publications both domestically and internationally, along with rising prices in the art market, are signs that Hodler's work now enjoys worldwide acclaim. What has been lacking until now is a catalog of works that meets scientific criteria while also appealing to a broad audience. The Swiss Institute for Art Research has been working on this reference work since 1998.
