A magical tremor shakes the shores of the Caribbean. In the pirate ports, children with a special talent are born: they can walk on water.

Fourteen years later, Jolly believes that she is the only wave walker left. Until she meets Munk. He too walks on the sea and can weave an ancient spell from shells. Both are faced with a dark fate: in the middle of the Atlantic, a massive maelstrom spins, sending forth messengers of doom that hunt the wave walkers across the islands. Only Jolly and Munk can close the whirlpool between worlds. But the journey there is long, perilous, and will put their friendship to a cruel test.
