Marianne, thirty years old, and her eight-year-old son Stefan are waiting for Bruno, the husband and father, to return from a business trip lasting several months. When he returns, Bruno tells of his being alone and strangers in Finland, of his fear and the resulting bond with Marianne and Stefan "to the death. . and the strange thing is that I could even be without you after having experienced this". The next day they decide to separate. "Forever?" asks Bruno. And little by little, they stop counting the days they're alone. The new way of being begins to protect and strengthen them.
