Author's Text
Teresa of Ávila (1515-1582), Spanish founder of religious orders and mystic; through her work, numerous monasteries of a new branch of the Carmelite order (Teresian Carmel) were established. Pope Paul VI awarded her the title of "Doctor of the Church" in 1970, making her the first woman to receive this honor. The works of Teresa of Ávila are classics of Spanish literature.

Blurb
"The one who commanded me to write said to me that the nuns in these monasteries of our Lady of Mount Carmel needed someone to dispel some doubts regarding prayer. Since he had the impression that women best understand the language of their own kind, my words - given the love they had for me - would be most helpful to them.".
