Few stories are as suitable as an introduction to the world of independent reading as the tale of the likable, clever hedgehog with his wife and the arrogant rabbit who believes he is invincible but learns otherwise. The fabulous, easily accessible plot is supported by a manageable number of child-friendly characters. In our version, Willi Fährmann's simple, clear language and the alteration of the ending (the rabbit collapses exhausted but does not have to die) further facilitate children's access to the story. The syllable support reading method makes reading the text easier: By highlighting individual syllables in color, beginning readers can correctly read longer words at first glance.
