One day, the animals in the Red Meadow Forest are having a conversation and wonder what might be the most important thing. The rabbit values long ears, the hedgehog explains the advantages of spines, the giraffe emphasizes its long neck, the elephant its long trunk, and so on. But what would the animals look like if each one combined all these traits? The wise owl convinces its animal friends that everyone has individual strengths and cannot all be the same.

The Most Important Thing tells a wonderful modern fable about the uniqueness of each individual. On each page of the bilingual story, an animal introduces its special trait, which it considers the most important. The next page—a flap page—then shows the forest dwellers with the previously mentioned key trait (including a frog and a fox with spines or a lion and a giraffe with a trunk). The loving and sometimes absurd illustrations are sure to bring plenty of laughter to the little ones.
