In 2018, the Vitra Design Museum is publishing the "Atlas of Furniture Design" - a new, over 1000-page fundamental work that offers an encyclopedic overview of the history of modern furniture. Around 1700 objects by over 500 designers and 121 manufacturers are presented, illustrated by over 2800 images, ranging from detailed object photographs to historical images of interiors, patents, brochures and reference works from art and architecture. The basis for the "Atlas of Furniture Design" is the collection of the Vitra Design Museum, with over 7000 objects one of the largest of its kind. The book includes works by the most important designers of the past 230 years and documents all important phases of design history. This includes 19th century furniture made of bentwood and metal, designs from the Art Nouveau and Secession periods, design icons by P.
