Armin Hofmann has influenced generations of graphic designers around the world with his graphic work and didactic approaches. Far from doctrinal views, he exemplified a professional attitude characterized by the idea of reduction, a pragmatic focus on the subject, and a deep sense of responsibility. This publication provides a comprehensive overview of his design work, his professional ethical beliefs, and the principles he developed and applied in teaching. The work is structured on three levels: a professional engagement with Hofmann's works, his biography, and original texts on various aspects of his oeuvre. Contributions from former students who later became renowned graphic designers and typographers, as well as collaborators and colleagues, paint a very personal picture and illustrate the global influence of his work through their own creations. The research relied almost exclusively on original sources, particularly from the extensive private archive, allowing for a very authentic, in-depth, and multifaceted exploration of Armin Hofmann's legacy.
