In the Vienna Kunsthistorisches Museum, on the bench opposite Tintoretto's White-bearded Man, every second morning - except on Saturdays when admission is free - the music philosopher Reger takes a stand and immerses himself in the sight of the painting. One day the routine is interrupted: Reger asks his friend Atzbacher to meet him in the museum on Saturday of all days. But before the reason for this unusual behaviour is revealed, Reger indulges in wonderfully sweeping tirades against the Viennese, against arty eagerness and title addiction, Capuchin crypt and Hofburg, pastry cult and Prater.
