London in June 1923. Peter Vane can no longer sleep. An unknown voice repeatedly whispers a single word to him: Lily. However, the young war veteran and mathematics student does not know anyone by that name. Only the photo of a little girl, which his injured comrade Finley slipped to him in the trenches, seems to be strangely connected to Lily. Finley is missing, and in order to find him, Peter seeks help from the famous medium Hester Dowden, who claims to be able to communicate with the beyond, despite all his doubts. But when Peter attends a séance, he feels a completely different eerie presence: Oscar Wilde, who has been dead for 23 years, dictates his thoughts to him. Hoping that all of this can be explained rationally, Peter, with the help of the eccentric Dolly, tries to solve the mystery of Lily's photo, expose Mrs. Dowden as a fraud, and conquer his own demons.
