Product details
In the Orwellian state, a new language is mandated, known as Newspeak. Together with the so-called Doublethink, it aims to condition people to stop thinking critically. Orwell vividly illustrates how the manipulation of the populace by the ruling class can be facilitated through changes in language. This is particularly evident when the most inhumane aspects of a system are masked by euphonious names. For example, there is a Ministry of Love. It does not promote loving interactions among people; rather, it teaches dissenters and those with differing opinions to love Big Brother through the most brutal torture methods. In the Ministry of Truth, history and the present are adjusted to fit the current political system. What is true is defined as true by Big Brother. The populace is made to believe that everything has always been as it is now. Any dissenting views are systematically removed from magazines and books, and thus from the memories of the people. Conversely, the Ministry of Peace plans peace missions that are nothing more than military operations. Who could be surprised that behind pleasure camps lie forced labor camps of the worst kind?.
