From her train compartment, Elspeth McGillicuddy witnesses a murder in another train. Helplessly, she watches as a man strangles a woman. The woman falls to the ground, and the train departs. There are no suspects, no other witnesses - and, ultimately, no body. No one believes Elspeth. Except for her friend Miss Marple, who will not rest until she has apprehended the culprit.
