Does anyone else have the problem that the water level is so high that it almost overflows? If I put in a fresh filter it drains better but I can't have to change the filter every week. What could be the cause?

I have had it for 2-3 weeks and have no problem with the water overflowing. Is it possible that your water is very hard? (lime)? If so, try using still mineral water.
