The flow rate of the aquarium pump must be matched to the size of the filter. If the pump's flow rate is too high, the filter will overflow and this should be avoided at all costs. The circulation cycle of the pond and the retention time of the water in the filter should also be taken into account.

Depending on the type of use, the optimum circulation cycle depends on various factors: Fish stocking, aquatic plants, desired water clarity. Of course, other components of the filter circuit may also need to be harmonised.
