This structure allows for the formation of highly efficient biofilms that grow into the pores and line their walls. The pores are the ideal size to guarantee long-term water flow and supply to the bacteria. In the depths of the pore structure, where the oxygen level decreases, the biofilm also breaks down nitrate (denitrification).

In the biofilm of siporax Professional, not only nitrifying and denitrifying bacteria grow, but also bacteria that decompose organic matter. This prevents dying bacteria from clogging the pores, as they are biologically decomposed instead. The biofilm grows and shrinks with the water load, thus adapting to the demand. siporax Professional is therefore the only self-cleaning biological filter material.
