This mixture contains fire-burned quartz sand, lime grit, crushed seashells, and natural minerals and building materials. The added grit helps with the grinding of seeds and grains in the bird's stomach. The sand should be replaced every 2-3 days, and the bottom tray should be washed with hot water once a week.
