Colostrum, also known as first milk, has a higher content of immunoglobulins and nutrients compared to regular cow's milk. Therefore, the newborn calf must receive high-quality colostrum in larger quantities right away.

It is advisable to establish a colostrum storage with frozen colostrum. This ensures that there is always a supply of high-quality first milk available. If the quality of the colostrum is poor after birth (e.g., in heifers) or the quantity is insufficient, frozen colostrum can be used.
