Volcanic natural substrate for aquascaping. Volcanic rock substrate serves as a stable foundation for stone and driftwood structures. It is the basis for nature aquariums: porous volcanic rock ensures water circulation in the substrate and provides organic plant nutrients to the plant roots. This promotes vigorous plant growth through optimal oxygen supply and circulation thanks to its open-pore structure. The substrate offers long-term supply of nutrients and minerals and ensures a secure base without shifting, making it ideal for a stable foundation.

The highly porous volcanic rock fulfills various functions in an aquascaping aquarium: it provides a stable base for additional structures made of stone and/or driftwood, which would otherwise slide down through soil. Additionally, many beneficial bacteria colonize the porous structure. The porous rock structure allows for good penetration of nutrients and delivers many minerals, enabling plants to root and grow well.

The calculation formula for the right amount of substrate is: Length (cm) x Width (cm) x Height (cm) : 1000 = Liters. Aquascaping refers to the technique of designing aquarium landscapes, where imaginative plant arrangements or replicas of above-water landscapes and natural habitats are created. An aquascaping aquarium contains few or no fish and invertebrates, which reduces nutrient supply for plants and limits their growth. Nitrogen, phosphorus, and other minerals become scarce and must be supplemented purposefully. For healthy plant growth in a beautiful underwater landscape, plants need light, CO2, and the right nutrients.
