Planarians (Platyhelminthes), also known as flatworms, are unwelcome guests in aquariums that can pose a danger to some inhabitants. Due to their nocturnal lifestyle, many aquarists are unaware of their presence. These creatures can multiply rapidly, leading to infestations. In freshwater aquariums, their preferred victims include freshly molted shrimp, small shrimp and their larvae, as well as weak animals, juvenile fish, and eggs. In saltwater aquariums, flatworms and planarians can also cause damage to corals and other marine life due to their rapid reproduction.
