Natural lava rock for biological filtration

EHEIM LAV is made from lava rock and is a pure natural product. Its rough, highly porous structure provides excellent conditions for the colonization of cleaning bacteria. Since it is a natural material, the granules or fragments in the packaging vary in size. EHEIM LAV can be rinsed and reused. It is suitable for both freshwater and saltwater.

Biological filter media

The main task of the biological filter material is to provide optimal conditions for bacterial cultures, allowing a bacterial lawn to develop in a short time. The bacteria feed on dirt particles of all kinds and convert critical substances for the aquarium. After the initial cleaning by mechanical filter media, biological filtration is the most important. It ensures clear, healthy water and stable water parameters. Therefore, we have invested significant research into the development of biological filter media.

Tip:

Never clean or replace all of the biological filter material at once (and never too thoroughly). The bacterial cultures must not be completely destroyed, as this would delay recolonization. For partial cleaning, the filter baskets in external filters and the filter modules in internal filters are ideal.
